About Southampton
Southampton is a port city in Hampshire, located on England’s south coast.
Southampton is sheltered by the Isle of Wight, giving it a natural deep-water harbour. Its strategic location on the River Test estuary made it a vital maritime hub, and the city played a key role in D-Day during World War II.
The unfortunate RMS Titanic sailed from Southampton in 1912, and 500 of the people lost when the ship sank were inhabitants of the city.
The city is separated from the beautiful New Forest National Park by the River Test, a chalk stream.
