About Herstmonceux
Herstmonceux is a picturesque village in East Sussex, England, located a few miles west of Hailsham and about 12 miles north of Eastbourne.
Fifteenth-century Herstmonceux Castle, one of the oldest brick-built buildings in England, can be found a couple of miles from the village. The Royal Greenwich Observatory was located in the castle grounds until 1988. Today, the site is home to The Observatory Science Centre, where visitors can explore hands-on exhibits, telescopes, and astronomy events. The castle is surrounded by parks and gardens that are listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. Herstmonceux Park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in a narrow valley that provides wetland habitats for several rare aquatic plant species.
